Play 2: Run Surveys for Exclusive Data

Surveys are one of the most accessible ways to create the “exclusive” data journalists crave — and you don’t need a massive research budget to do it well.

What you do need:

  • A timely tension
  • Informative questions
  • Actionable insights
  • A hook that makes the finding valuable to journalists and customers
Avoid “survey says” content that confirms the obvious or reads like an ad. Look for the contradiction, the emotional hook, the generational split — then add your expert POV. That’s the difference between data that fills a blog post and data that earns attention.
