Where Content Budget Goes to Die: Knowing You Exist vs. Recommending You

There is a critical gap between AI knowing your brand and AI recommending your brand. Content budget spent only on raising awareness in the corpus — without earning a place in the sources AI retrieves and cites — is budget that never shows up in an answer.

The metric that matters isn’t how often you’re mentioned. It’s whether you appear in the recommendation set when a buyer asks.
Gauges showing 83% of brands are known to the model versus 8% named unprompted
Fractl tested brands with under 1,000 corpus mentions against Claude Haiku: 83% were known (“Is [Brand] a real place?”) but only 8% were named unprompted. That gap is where content budget goes to die.
